Step 2 (Reflection): This week in UWP 1, we learned about paragraph structure, which is something I didn’t really care about when I was writing. What I used to do is merely put all my ideas down in my essays, and I mostly wrote the common five paragraph essay. But they are never enough for me to organize all my ideas down in just five paragraphs. And a lot of my ideas are pressed into one really long paragraph, which made my paper a little messy. But now I am freed from the five paragraph structure of essays, I can actually develop my ideas in my paragraphs better and make it clearer. I also learned that each paragraph should only contain one main idea, and I should relate back to my thesis at the end of that paragraph as well. It actually helped me a lot when I was editing my literacy narrative paper. Because it allows me to develop my ideas more clearly if I focus on only one main point in each paragraph. Therefore, I will remember this method when I am writing my papers in the future as well. Step 3 (Notes): From the article, I learned that when writing an wikipedia article, the topic I choose must be worthy to be write about. I should not write about my personal matters or my friends because it is not worthy and appropriate to be put on for others to read. And what I am about to write should serve as informations for other people to read so that they can know more about the topic, therefore the sources I need to find to convey these informations should be more academic. When using my sources, I need to paraphase and avoid copying other’s work or it would be considered as violating other people’s copyright. Step 5 (Topic Write-up): Topic: Les Miserables(2012 movie) -Characters -Plot -The story behind the movie -Reviews -Compare to original book Step 6 (Notes):
From this article, I learned that when most of the people are searching for informations online, they tend to trust whatever they see on Google or Wikipedia, regardless of whether the information are true or not. They might not be reliable because a lot of them are not written by experts of this area and anyone can post anything online. Although there are a lot more ways that are more academic and reliable to gain information, people still like to use Google and Wikipedia because they are way more faster and convenient. I learned that it is important where our sources come from when we are writing our wikipedia entry. When I do my research for my entry, I plan to look at the authors and if this author is someone that is an expert in this area before I decide to use those information or not.
