Step 1: This quarter in UWP 1, I learned about various lessons about writing. I have grown a lot as a writer compared to the time when I first got into UWP 1 class. I learned that it is fine to write really bad drafts, because this is how we develop our papers better when we revise. I know that revising does not mean that my writing is really bad or it has a lot of flaws, it is actually a way to let me look back at my own writing and give myself a chance to see where I need to improve in my paper, and see if there is anything wrong with our writing processes. I am actually revising my paper for the first time whenever I delete something, which is also a way of improving my paper. I also learned a lot of skills about peer reviews. I know that writing meaningless comments like “I like this part”, or “you did a good job”, or making grammar corrections cannot really help your peer make their papers better. And these comments are the comments no one wants to get during peer reviews because they are basically useless. So when I am doing peer review, I would start to look for more detailed places where the contents need to be improved and look at the author’s main ideas in their essays to help them improve it, at the same time hoping that they are doing the same for me. These are all skills that I hope I can keep using when I go and take more and more writing courses in the future.
Step 3:
At the beginning of the quarter, I said that I was not a fan or writing essays. After 10 weeks of UWP 1 classes, I am still sure that I am not a fan of writing. But I still enjoy the time when I get to share my thoughts with other people. Even though I did not fall in love with writing in these 10 weeks, I did manage to improve my writing in multiple ways. After these 10 weeks in UWP 1, I feel like I can better express myself as a writer to my audience, and I am more confident about writing now. Which I am thankful and proud of.
