When I first received the Wikipedia entry project, I did not know what I should write about and how I should start my entry. But after brainstorming for idea, I thought about what I like to do during my freetime, which is watching movies. Therefore, I chose my favorite movie of all times to do this project - Les Miserables(2012). Because it is always more comfortable when I am writing about something that I have interests in. Although I faced some problems during the writing process, I still learned a lot about writing these kinds of articles that can be useful for my writings in the future. After writing this essay, I advanced my skills to writing to audiences and researching. The approach I used for this project is that I start by writing a rough outline, about what I am going to include in my wikipedia entry. Then what I do is I watched the movie again, with a piece of paper and a pen next to me. As I watch the movie, I dropped down notes about the character, the setting, the music in the movie, or anything that are important for people to know and need to be added to the outline. I also tried to write down important plot twists for the movie, so it helps me understand the movie more deeply as I go. Before I actually start writing my essay, I also did the research needed for my article, I did my research on the movie’s cast, music background, original book, production details, and critic reviews. And I found a lot of useful reviews in the UC Davis library website. So I read these sources and find facts that can be used in the entry. What did not work so well is that I need to use all formal tone to my audiences in this article, so it is really different from the living narrative project. I need to avoid putting personal comments and feelings in the article, and the phrase “I” cannot be used. I also learned a lot about researching skills that I did not know before. Such as choosing the right source and getting the important points from my sources. When I am looking for a source, I should check the author’s credibility, the publish date and the publisher to make sure that the information that are provided in the source are trustworthy. Overall, I enjoyed doing this project, and I am glad that I advanced my skills in writing to audiences and researching, because I will need to use both of them in my next project, which is the podcast project. Where these skills are both critical for the assignment, and I will try my best to use the skills I learned in previous projects into this project.
